Jean Stariha McDermott,

Jean, doesn't look good in your area. I hope you and the family are doing okay.

That really started quick and just keeps getting worse.

Hope you were and will be spared.

Prayers have been coming your way.

Collete and Pam,

Wishes for you and your families to not be in the way of the fires.

We know down here how they can be and it's not pleasant.

Stay safe and prayers are with you both.

To Tom Scott and Mike Murphy and all other classmates who were in the Marines, Happy 243rd Birthday! https://cir.ca/2RLqEvE

To all of our classmates who served our country, thank you and God Bless.  Happy Veterans Day!  You will always be my heroes!

Mike Young

Thank you, Arlene, for the compliments and wishes.

I would like to extend my thanks and admiration to our classmates who are vets and to those who waited at home for their safe returns.

I am fortunate enough to live, not only in a great country, but in a very patriotic area.  Fort Bragg is less than an hour away and there are a multitude of retired military in the area.  I play golf with an admiral, a couple of Air Force generals, and several retired Army career soldiers.  There are flags galore out today - the main drag into Pinehurst has over a mile of flags on each side of the road.  There will be a parade.  Vets (and active military) could eat breakfast, lunch and/or dinner at several resturants in the area.  Free haircuts, carwashes and pedicures(?) are also available.   Many of the local golf courses have outings ahere vets can play for free and the golf carts (many of them privately owned) will be sporting flags, seals and/or banners.  There will be a flyby of vintage aircraft and a parachute jump onto the driving range at the main resort.  There will be a Red, White and Blue wave of people dressed in our flags colors.  Our local high scholls teams are called the Patriots.

Jean,

Sorry it's late in the day but I was baking and finally getting time to sit.

Hope you had a day full of joy, happiness and lots of cake and ice cream, (we're never to old for that).

Wishing you Happy Holidays and may you and your family be safe and have fun.

My wishes to all of you and your families for Thanksgiving

If your traveling, be safe . If your staying home with family, I hope you don't over eat. And if your drinking, enjoy it but stay home.

Okay, enough. Have a great holiday and hope the weather stays good.

OB -  You bake?  Bravo 👏 !  I’d rather cook to feed a crowd, than bake!  However, I did make a batch of cookies for the grandkids and my first-ever attempt at making dinner rolls from scratch looks like a success. (Don’t laugh, Lucia!  Never to old to try something new.  Hope they taste as good as they look.)

May you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!  We are looking forward to everyone coming in from Chicago to stay with us for a few days.  (Hopefully the black lab puppy they are bringing won’t push me over the edge.)

Love to you all. 😍

Jean, I hope your birthday was as special as can be.  I'd like to be the first to wish you a Merry Unbirthday.  You getting snow, yet?  I had lunch on the shores of Lake Luzerne many moons ago - the country up there is really beautiful and serene.

OB, I, too, am impressed - the results of most of my baking efforts have been half-baked.  Although I used to make a pretty mean cherry nut bread.

Let me echo those wishes for a happy and safe Thanksgiving.  We, in the United States of America have so much to be thankful for.  We, of the class of '63, have something additional to be grateful for - this forum which let's us keep in touch (even those "lurking" and reading).  Thank you, Lucia - great idea and follow through.

Well said, Mike.  We Americans have so much to be thankful for.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, everyone.

Jean Stariha (McDermott)

Hi,

Yes, Tom the fires were close to us and very frightening.

We didn't have to evacuate, but I did pack the car.

I had lunch with Collette the other day.  She had to evacuate.

Thankfully, she didn't loose her home. Haven't heard from Pam.

However, she lives in an evacuation area.

In the past the fires burned around us, in the hills. Durning the 40 years I've lived here the fires

have never burned in town. This time it burned through neighborhoods within a mile of us.

Now we arepreparing for rain. Which means the possibility of mud slides.

It's been a rough 2 weeks for our town with the mass shooting and the fires. Please keep us, along

with our friends and neighbors in your prayers.

Jean Stariha McDermott

Happy Turkey Day, one and all. 🦃🍁🦃

Jean, Collette and Pam,

Our thoghts and prayers are with you during this difficult time with the fires, potential mud slides and terrible mass shooting.

11/21/18 12:01 PM #2509

Tom O'Brien

Jean, glad to hear all is well. I know how nervous it makes you when the fires are getting near.

When I saw we were going to get rain today and tomorrow I thought good news, bad news.. Good the rain will help on the fires, bad it is bad on the burned out areas for the land slides and mud.

In the Army, being trained as a cook, we had one week of baking, it was terrific. Every thing we baked went out to the mess halls and they loved it. Every thing from breads, rolls, pies, cakes and even jelly rolls. We also had one week of meat cutting, Tomorrow I just might debone the turkey before cooking as we did in class.

Scotty, good luck on the injection. If it works half as good as mine you'll be very happy.

Again, to all, HAPPY BIRD DAY.

Mike Young

Jean, how is everything with you in the wake of the fire?  We'd all like to know how our prayers for you, Collette and Pam have been answered.  This gives a new perspective on "The heat is on" doesn't it?  Of course it would be nice if Collette and Pam were to give us their own updates.  Yes, that's a relatively large hint, ladies.  Do you still have houses?  Etc.????

Meanwhile, Happy Birthday Annette, another of the LaSalette additions to our class of "63.  I hope your exceptional smile has many good reasons to be on display, lighting up the lives of those around you.

Hope your day was filled with fun and good spirits, and I mean good spirits. Hope you look forward to many more with all your children and grand babies.

Susan Busch, my apologies, Susan, I thought your birthday was on the 9th rather than the 4th.  I hope it was all you wanted it to be and that the coming year is good to you and those important to you.
