Dr. Meininger's research is on risk factors, early detection and prevention of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, with current research targeted on obesity and blood pressure. Her work has a biobehavioral perspective, incorporating physiological, anthropometrical, and psychosocial factors. Several of her funded studies have focused on children and adolescents; in addition, she has been an investigator for interventions to lower blood pressure in adults.
Dr. Meininger received a BSN from St. Louis University, MSN from Case Western Reserve University, and a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her master's specialization is in public health nursing. This expertise drives her research agenda in community settings including schools and workplaces. Her specialization at the PhD level is epidemiology. This underpins the population focus of her research and her expertise in quantitative observational research.
In addition to UT-Houston, Dr. Meininger has held faculty positions at Case Western Reserve University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of Pennsylvania. She teaches research design and methods courses in the master's and doctoral programs.
