Thank you all for the birthday wishes.  You're right, Kathy, it's good to be remebered and recognized.  Now that I'm older and wiser I think that I'll  - sorry can't remeber what I'll do.  I have an open door policy - just about anyone is welcome, but in Flo's case I'll pass.  It seems as though the prognosticators have missed the mark, but who has any success in predicting Mother Nature's whims?  The threat looks fairly mild here now, although, if Flo does go inland in South Carolina, there's a reasonable expectation that she'll turn this way.  With winds diminished by 40 mph already I doubt that we'll see anything above 50 mph here.  Kathy, the chinchilla farm was on the north side of 12 mile road straight accross from Marshall and Fairfax.  It closed around the time you, the Liggetts and the Stacks moved out.  Judy, the Ozarks look good anytime, not just in a crisis.  Tom, the Twinkies are gone here, too, along with the plastic Jesus statuettes.  I never thought to check them out.

Scotty - I don't know about your neighborhood but it was calm and quiet last night.  5 minutes ago the winds went from pretty much nonexistant to about 25-30mph.  Almost no rain so far.  Everything has shut down.  The post office has been locked up since noon yesterday.  Still have power, but that's always a tentative situation when it's windy.

Tom, at the risk of incurring some wrath - how many women have YOU known to go quietly?  It does appear so far that you are correct as far as my neighborhood is concerned.

There was a chinchilla farm on the North side of 12 mile rd about a block west of Greenfield.  The Stacks, the Liggets, Kathy Poeppe, my sister and I would catch the bus to LaSalette on the south side of 12 mile rd.  There was a tight chickenwire fence and a building that looked like a cross between a store and a small barn.  I almost typed a "smell barn" - when the wind came from the North there was occasionally an "aroma" near 12 mile.  None of us was allowed to cross 12 mile and there wasn't a sidewalk on the North side, but we did see some of the critters outside, but only rarely.  I know very little about chinchillas so I can only speculate about whether they had to be kept inside.  They're not like chickens, maybe they'd burrow out.  Or fight with one another.  Dunno.  As to the Gypsy trailer, I remember that there was a trailer/cart in a field away from all the houses but not near where we played so that's a bit fuzzy to me, Kathy.

Thank you all for your good wishes and prayers - they seem to be working.

This is really getting serious some of the waffle houses are closing this is unheard of we're supposed to get between 7 and 12 in of rain but I am concerned about the waffle houses

We lived in Berkley (in 6th grade, we moved to RO -Benjamin St.) and I went to LaSallete through half of fifth grade and I walked from Eaton Rd (Vinsetta Garage) so this is the first time I am hearing about Chinchillas and Gypsies. I admit to being gobsmacked!

So you found out about my secret life as a gypsy I guess that means I'm coming out of the closet not much destruction here from the hurricane just rain in a little wind and that is it

Dan, I hope your birthday was as good as you are.  I'd have been on time but, like scotty on Star Trek, I just "couldn't get no power".  I was hoping you'd receive "the sweater" for your birthday, but I fear that one of your fans has it and won't give it up.  Either that or the Smithsonian or a History Museum has it.  Meanwhile, have a Merry Unbirthday.  Everyone else, too.

My power was out for over 4 days, we had some wind and quite a bit of rain, but nothing life threatening.  Florence went South of us - the prognosticator were expecting North.

Scotty, I'd like to what outfit you'd be sporting coming out of a gypsy's closet.  Bells, beads, sashes, boots, and I think you'd have to grow a mustache, too.  Send pictures.

Lucia, Kath Poeppe, John Stack and I were all in Southfield, just south of 12 Mile rd. and west of Greenfield.  You were soooo far away at that age - you probably weren't allowed to go out to "the sticks".  There was a wagon in one of the fields, well away from our houses and we weren't allowed to go near it.  Whether it was a gypsy wagon I couldn't say, but Kathy seems to have a better lore of knowledge on it than I.  We never saw any horses, but it was a horse wagon as I recall.
